Two alumni with three faculty

Posted on: March 9, 2020

On 6 March Art and Music Histories hosted a Lunch and Learn session with two successful Music History and Cultures graduates, Jeff Peters (’09), now a Senior Composer at NYC-based Jingle Punks, and Samantha Skaller (’17, MA Musicology McGill ’19), a Senior Campus Sexual Assault Coordinator at the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault. Jeff and Sam chatted with current students and discussed how studying music history helped them succeed in their chosen career paths. Jeff commented that when a client requests music that emulates different style periods, cultures, or a particular composer he knows just what to do, thanks to the courses he took in Music History and Cultures. Sam also uses skills she gleaned from studying musicology in ways big and small. Her job involves giving presentations to college students and she frequently uses music videos and contemporary music to illustrate how sexism, violence against women, and relationship violence is represented in contemporary popular culture. The Lunch and Learn session concluded with a lively question and answer session with the students.
