Congratulations to prof Sydney Hutchinson (music history and cultures) for winning a travel grant from the Thyssen Foundation to conduct additional field research in Bermuda on the gombey masqueraders. The title of her research project is "Bermuda Gombey (re)connections. Recovering identities through performance in a Black Atlantic outpost." She will be introducing this project at conference titled "Racialisation and publicness in Africa and the African diaspora at the University of Oxford.
