Research in my group is generally concerned with the application of new physical and chemical analytical methods to problems in forensic sciences. Postmortem Interval (PMI), or “time since death”, is an integral part of death investigations. In one of our projects we are concerned with establishing a method that allows for the determination of a PMI from bones. The goal is to develop a reliable method to determine a timeline for death when soft tissue is no longer available and other methods offer too wide margins of error to pinpoint the time of death.
Furthermore, in a project in connection with the Upstate New York Poison Center we are investigating sustained release pharmaceuticals and the effects of different preparations and possible remedies on the available concentrations of the particular agents in patients.
