Simon is a PhD candidate whose research area is post-World War II American independent film and media. He is especially interested in subcultural media and the dialogic relationship between subcultures and the mainstream. His dissertation analyzes different eras of skateboarding media and their shifting textual strategies over the past fifty years. He has served as a teaching assistant and independent instructor for lower-division courses focusing on film (including Interpretation of Film, World Cinema, and Hollywood Cinema), popular culture, as well as nonfiction literature and media.
