Simon is a PhD candidate who focuses on post-World War II independent film and media. He is especially interested in subcultural media and the dialogic relationship between subcultures and the mainstream. His dissertation analyzes different eras of skateboarding media and the implications of their shifting textual strategies over the past fifty years. He has served as a teaching assistant and independent instructor for lower-division courses focusing on film (including Interpretation of Film, World Cinema, and Hollywood Cinema), popular culture, and nonfiction literature and media.
