Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access
The Biology Department at Syracuse University publicly and unequivocally condemns the racist incidents that have been perpetrated on and around our campus in recent months. As a department we are committed to working together to dismantle institutional racism, and create a diverse, equitable, inclusive and accessible environment for all. We firmly believe that diversity, equity and inclusion are integral to achieving excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. We commit to continuing to work to increase the representation and success of marginalized groups in our faculty, staff and student body and create inclusive and equitable departmental programs and community. We also support the calls from underrepresented and marginalized communities for the university administration and the wider university community to work together collaboratively and transparently to develop comprehensive short and long-term strategies to create a more inclusive and equitable university community and campus. We commit to being part of this effort.
The Biology Department would like to acknowledge with respect the Onondaga Nation, firekeepers of the Haudenosaunee, the indigenous peoples on whose ancestral lands Syracuse University now stands.
