Katie Kidwell, assistant professor of psychology, was interviewed by Healthline for an article titled, "Isolation, Loneliness are Major Mortality Risk Factors for People With Obesity." The piece highlighted a recent study which found that those who are socially isolated, lonely and obese face a higher risk of death.

Kidwell, whose research lies at the intersection of physical health, mental health and key health behaviors, noted that the study's findings emphasize a need for intervention strategies centered around increasing social activity.

"“I think it would be an intervention that is motivating adolescents, youth, and adults as well, to get engaged in an activity and in their community. To feel like they’re a part of something, to feel like they’re a part of a community,” Kidwell said.
