Mike Goode, associate professor of English, was recently invited by Syracuse-area public broadcasting station WCNY-TV and OASIS to lead a community discussion during an advance screening of “Sanditon,” the adaptation of Jane Austen’s unfinished final work. Goode, who specializes in Romantic-era literature and teaches graduate-level courses on Jane Austen, provided historical context prior to the advance screening. After the showing, Goode engaged in a lively question and answer session with the 230 people in attendance at the Robert J. Daino Broadcast and Education Center in Syracuse.

Austen began work on “Sanditon” in 1817, but was never able to complete the novel before her death that year. Screenwriter Andrew Davies, who also adapted “Pride and Prejudice,” and “Les Misérables,” picked up where Austen’s plot left off. The series airs every Sunday on PBS through February 23.
