Elizabeth Carter, assistant professor of Earth and environmental sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences and civil and environmental engineering in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, was quoted in a Scripps News article about the ongoing water shortage in Mexico City.

Carter, who is an expert in hydroclimatology, notes that while climate change has played a role in the water crisis, politics has also exacerbated the issue. She notes that U.S. engineering projects in rivers that feed many of Mexico's northern freshwater sources run dry before reaching Mexico, citing the Hoover Dam, Glen Canyon Dam, and the Central Arizona Project (Colorado River) as examples.

The article appeared on several news websites, including AOL.com, WTKR, ABC15 Arizona, KTVH and KPAX.
