Dean's Team

The Dean’s Team is a group of student ambassadors who serve as a fantastic representation of the College of Arts and Sciences and Maxwell School. While Dean’s Team members come from different majors, states, countries, backgrounds, and more, they all bleed Orange.

What are the responsibilities of the Dean’s Team?

Because of their academic strengths, connections to campus activities, communication skills, and leadership qualities, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences relies on Dean’s Team members to help recruit new students to Syracuse and aid in their transition to campus.

Dean's Team Member Giving Advice

In collaboration with the Visitor’s Center:

  • Meet high school students who are interested in coming to Syracuse
  • Answer questions from parents of prospective students
  • Show visitors important facilities around campus

In collaboration with the Advising Office:

  • E-mail students during the summer before their first semester
  • Provide registration advice during Opening Weekend
  • Help students adhere to registration deadlines throughout the year
  • Optionally, serve as First-Year Forum mentors for academic credit

Are there any perks to Dean's Team membership?

Yes! This type of leadership activity is what employers and graduate schools look for in prospective hires and graduate students. They like to see that you’ve taken extra initiative and are the kind of person that institutions want to represent them. Dean’s Team leadership is also happy to provide letters of recommendation.

Dean’s Team members get to move in early on the Tuesday or Wednesday before Opening Weekend. They receive a free T-shirt and other swag throughout the year, as available.

The Dean’s Team is also a social opportunity, with get-togethers during the semester and a thank-you reception at the end of each year, where members are awarded graduation cords.

How can I join?

We have a formal application process, and typically accept applications at the beginning of each Spring semester. In reviewing applicants, we look for students who are friendly, excited about Syracuse, and involved on campus.

The Dean's Team is co-coordinated by the College of Arts and Sciences Office of Undergraduate Academic and Career Advising, the College's Office of Admissions and the Dean's Team Executive Board. If you have any questions about the Dean's Team, please email Rachel Skipper at
