Peter Murphy is an art historian specializing in modern and contemporary art, queer art history, and queer studies. His doctoral dissertation examines European and American figural painting in relation to episodes of queer history during the twentieth century. He is currently a PhD candidate in Visual & Cultural Studies at the University of Rochester where his research has been supported by grants from the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies and a Dean's Dissertation Fellowship. Peter is also an active art critic and his writing has appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, ASAP/J, and InVisible Culture.
