Bio

John Green is a PhD Musicology candidate at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. His dissertation, "'Available to Our Ears': John Cage and Broadcast Media," under the direction of Prof. Lisa Jakelski, focuses on the composer's interest in radio and television for its collaborative and unpredictable nature. His research has been supported by University of Rochester's Raymond N. Ball Dissertation Fellowship and Northwestern University's John Cage Research Grant. Green has presented recently at the national meeting of the American Musicological Society, the Society for American Music Annual Meeting, and Music and Moving Image Conference. In addition to his scholarship, he has also been engaged in learning, performing, and teaching Zimbabwean music since 2011 and has given performances and workshops at Hamilton College, Syracuse University, and other area schools and colleges.
