Courtney Carr received a BA in Africana Studies cum laude from Cornell University in May 2018. Her Senior Thesis, The Importance of Local Activism in Mitigating the Practice of Female Genital Cutting in Africa: The Case of the Network Against Female Genital Mutilation in Tanzania explores the importance of shared gender, racial and ethnic identity within the realm of local activism. Courtney’s research interests include nongovernmental organization discourse; African feminism; and narrative constructions of women affected by female genital cutting.
