Research and Teaching Interests
My research interests are now a bit broad, and include sedimentary geology, broad-scale manifestations of global rock cycling, the crustal inventory of precious metals, and the importance of humans as geomorphic agents.

*Determination of rates of rock cycling from age frequency distributions of lithotope areas on global geologic maps with Brandon McElroy at the University of Texas, Steve Kesler at the University of Michigan, and Shanan Peters at the University of Wisconsin. Everyone knows there is more exposure of young rock and less of old rock. Can this constrain rates of rock cycling?
* Tectonic uplift and erosion of orogenic belts have long been the most important processes that shape continental surfaces, but the rate of geomorphic change resulting from these natural phenomena has now been outstripped by human activities associated with agriculture, construction, and mining. What exactly are long-term and short-term rates of sediment transfer in response to glacio-fluvial and anthropogenic processes?
