Ian is an MA student studying 19th-century American Literature. He is particularly interested in Herman Melville and Emily Dickinson. He gravitates towards authors and characters who are difficult to categorize, or who feel the pressure that results from bridging two competing categories. He is intrigued by reading practices and understanding authors as readers both of other texts and their own texts. His research interests include spectral, psychoanalytic, structuralist, and deconstructionist critical theories as they relate to characters and authors trapped in liminal spaces between categories. He is also interested in poetry, feminism, form, and media.
