Communication Sciences and Disorders faculty member Dr. Ellyn Riley was quoted in the Washington Post in an article on understanding aphasia, a topic in the news because of the announced retirement of actor Bruce Willis. In the article, she explained characteristics of common types of aphasia and risk factors for developing aphasia including stroke. Dr. Riley’s research in the Aphasia Research Lab is focused on using methods such as brain stimulation and quantifying and addressing fatigue for improving language treatment outcomes in rehabilitation for post-stroke aphasia.
