Posted on: Feb. 27, 2018

Katie Cealka (M.A. '13) and her students at Union Public Schools in Tulsa, Oklahoma, created an exhibition for Black History Month.  She used the installation to teach her students about the so-called Tulsa "Race Riots" (1921), which destroyed the a flourishing African American community in the city. Katie's MA Symposium Paper was titled Looking at a Forgotten History: Jacob Hooker's Photographs of the Tulsa Race Riot. In this paper she examined photographs by an African American photographer that capture the devastation caused by the riots.
