JUDAIC STUDIES
Welcome
The Judaic Studies Program at Syracuse University exposes students to the riches of Jewish and Israeli history, culture, and traditions. The Program draws diverse course offerings from faculty throughout the University, providing students with invaluable knowledge of Jews and Judaism. Study in Israel is strongly encouraged to broaden this knowledge. Students graduate with the foundation needed to pursue further education or careers in a variety of fields such as social work, education, and communal service.
In addition to the core faculty in the Department of Religion who teach primarily in the area of Judaic Studies, affiliated faculty teach classes in Political Science, English, and Languages, Literatures and Linguistics. Visiting professors teach courses on Jewish art and architecture and on Judaic literature. Graduate students may apply for the generous Benjamin Fellowship in Judaic Studies, working under the supervision of the B. G. Rudolph Professor. Undergraduates may submit essays for consideration in the annual Kalina Prize competition for the best paper relating to the Holocaust. The Judaic Studies Program brings world-renowned guest lecturers to campus, sponsored by generous endowments from the Rudolph, Holstein, and Rothman Family Endowments.
