Advocacy and Public Rhetoric
The 18-credit undergraduate minor in Advocacy and Public Rhetoric is an interdisciplinary program supported by the Writing Program in The College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC) in The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
The minor is designed to be of interest to those who want to learn more about the emergence of key public issues; the larger political, social, and economic framework out of which they emerge; and how different constituencies respond. Students learn to assess competing interests within a public issue while engaging in local, regional, and national advocacy campaigns. The courses are designed to help students understand advocacy as a necessary part of citizenship.
