Beckman Scholars Program

The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation has awarded The College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University a grant to select outstanding students over the next three years as Beckman Scholars. Established in 1997, The Beckman Scholars Program provides scholarships that contribute significantly in advancing the education, research training, and personal development of select students in chemistry, biochemistry, and the biological and medical sciences.


Program Overview

Syracuse University Beckman Scholars receive $19,300 in financial support over two summers and a full academic year. Specifically, Scholars receive the following:

Student Stipend:

  • Summer Funding: $6,000 per summer (fulltime for 10 weeks)
  • Academic Year Funding: $4,000 per academic year (Ten hours per week during the spring and fall semesters)

Scientific meeting travel funds and research supplies:
  • Summer travel and supplies: $850 per summer
  • Academic year travel and supplies: $1,600 per academic year


Students majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, or biomedical and chemical engineering are invited to apply for this highly competitive program.
