Academic Programs

Pre-Professional Advising

“Pre-med” (or “Pre-law”) is not specifically a major at Syracuse University. This area of study is, however, presented through an advisory program for students looking to go on to further study in the professional field. Indeed, SU students may pursue any undergraduate major on campus and still enroll in the advisory program, on route to medical school (law school).

The Pre-Professional Advising Services is comprised of two distinct units:

Pre-Med / Pre-Health

The Health Professions Advisory Program (HPAP) provides advising/counseling services, and other resources supporting students/alumni who may be interested in the health professions. HPAP also provides sponsorship and credentials services. Services are available without cost to SU and ESF students/alumni. HPAP assists advisees in understanding and planning their academic prerequisities and other credentials necessary for successful application. Example of health professions include (but are not limited to) medical, dental, optometry, veterinary, podiatry, physician assistant, physical therapy, health administration, and public health.

Pre-Law

IProfessional pre-law advisors assist SU students in understanding how to explore their interest in the legal field, while providing developmental guidance in selecting academic programs, co-curricular opportunities; exploring career opportunities, the law school application process. Examples of advising services include individual counseling, small group workshops, and personal statement and resume assistance.
