Parents' Guide

It is natural and desirable for parents to be keenly interested in the colleges their daughters and sons seek out. As a parent, you are involved with the college of choice for four years through sharing experiences and stories with your son or daughter and, most likely, financial support. Parental understanding during the search, and the natural ups and downs of the undergraduate years is a vital part of your student’s success while earning a bachelor's degree.

Throughout the college search process there will be many questions that you, as parents, will face for the first time: what is it going to mean to the family, what about the 'empty nest,' what will it be like when next fall rolls around and finally, what's going to happen to my child? Unfortunately, we cannot provide a quick answer, only some insight.

Those who work with students in The College of Arts and Sciences understand new students bring with them, consciously or not, their own hopes and aspirations as well as the expectations of a number of people who are rooting for them. Faculty, staff and administration spend countless hours continuously
