Research and Teaching Interests

My research interests are in political and moral psychology with specific focus in the areas of (1) attitudes and decision-making and (2) political communication. I am particularly interested in understanding the psychological processes that drive attitudes about important societal issues, as well as mechanisms that can produce attitude and behavior change in relation to those issues. I am also interested in the causes and consequences of the underlying complexity of communication as they relate to political ideology, political influence, and the dynamics of peace and conflict.

As an instructor, my fundamental goals are to help students to think critically about psychological concepts, theories, and research, and to cultivate a sense of excitement for psychological science. Whether the classroom setting is large or small, in-person or online, my courses center on active learning and inquiry through live demonstrations, discussion, and application to societal issues.
