The College of Arts & Sciences looks forward to seeing many alumni and friends back on campus for Orange Central, October 18–21. This wonderful weekend brings the whole Syracuse University community together, and we’re pleased to host these special events:

Friday, October 19, 2018

The Science of Ice Cream
Session 1: 3-3:30 p.m.
Session 2: 4-4:30 p.m.
Life Sciences Complex, Milton Atrium
Come help physics lab manager Sam Sampere make ice cream using liquid nitrogen, and get your own scoop of these delicious creations. Sam will explain the science behind making amazing ice cream, including what makes it taste so sweet and smooth.
Cost: No charge; includes ice cream sample


7:30-9:30 p.m.
Holden Observatory
Join faculty and graduate students for a rare opportunity to climb the winding staircase and gaze at the stars through our historic 1887 telescope. Tours are offered every 15 minutes, weather permitting. Space is limited for each tour and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cost: No charge

College of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Breakfast

The College of Arts & Sciences is on a roll, with a record number of applicants, a renewed commitment to undergraduate education, an award-winning faculty, and research expenditures at an all-time high. Join fellow Arts & Sciences alumni and Dean Karin Ruhlandt for conversation and breakfast. Dean Ruhlandt will give a brief update on the college and answer your questions.

You’re also invited to attend the inaugural Syracuse University Alumni Awards Celebration, Friday, October 19, at the Schine Student Center. Join us for an evening that honors College of Arts & Sciences alumni Dr. Sharon Brangman ’77, Kevin Bell ’74, H’16, Joseph Strasser ’53, G’58, and Larry Bashe ’66, G’68—and all of this year’s recipients of the George Arents Award, Melvin A. Eggers Senior Alumni Award, and Generation Orange Award.
