The Syracuse University Brass Ensemble (SUBE), directed by James T. Spencer, is making final preparations for its annual “Holidays at Hendricks” performance.

“It’s such a wonderful, positive event,” says Spencer, also a professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, where SUBE is based. “People come back, time after time. The concert has become a Syracuse tradition.”

On Sunday, Dec. 7, SUBE will join forces with the Hendricks Chapel Choir, directed by Peppie Calvar, and University Organist Anne Laver for a program of seasonal favorites in historic Hendricks Chapel. The concert also features the Syracuse University Singers, Windjammer Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Syracuse University Concert Choir, Syracuse University Women’s Choir, and Liverpool First United Methodist Church Handbell Choir—more than a 140 performers in all.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that will be collected and then distributed among the needy throughout Central New York.

With more than 40 members, SUBE has served as the College’s ensemble-in-residence for more than 25 years. The award-winning group is made up of students, faculty, staff, and alumni from not only Syracuse, but also neighboring institutions, including SUNY Upstate Medical University and Cornell University.
