Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The College of Arts and Sciences is in the midst of a highly creative and purposeful period. Our first-year class is the most selective and diverse in College history, our faculty is among the most talented in the Association of American Universities, and we are playing a leadership role in The Campaign for Syracuse University—our most ambitious campaign ever.

With The College at the strongest point in its 137-year history, this is an appropriate time for me to transition to new opportunities. On June 30, 2008, I will step down as your dean and return to research and teaching as SU’s first professor of interdisciplinary sciences. I am tremendously grateful for your many contributions during my eight-year tenure as dean. Your ideas and resources have been and will continue to be vital to our success.

Cordially,

Cathryn R. Newton
Dean, The College of Arts and Sciences
