Coronat Scholars

The Coronat Scholars Program at Syracuse University is a highly competitive opportunity for students with outstanding intellectual curiosity, accomplishment, and courage, who are committed to serving others. Offering full tuition in the College of Arts and Sciences for four years, admission is highly competitive and by invitation only.

The Coronat Scholars program offers many special opportunities, including:

  • full tuition for four years;
  • our pledge to meet your financial need that exceeds the cost of tuition;
  • full funding (tuition, room and board, and funds for airfare and expenses) for one SU Abroad international study opportunity, either short-term, summer, or semester;
  • funding for one summer of approved study, research, or volunteer work (awarded on a competitive basis);
  • admission to the Renée Crown University Honors Program;
  • mentoring for prominent national scholarships including Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, Truman and others.

The Coronat Package


Coronat Scholars have outstanding academic records, with a mean GPA of 4.15 and a mean SAT of approximately 1400*. Several were National Merit Scholarship Finalists, member of Odyssey of the Mind teams that went to the World Finals, Valedictorians of their high school classes, and recognized by numerous language and science exams (Latin, French, English, chemistry). In addition to an outstanding academic record, Coronat Scholars are chosen on the basis of their records of leadership and service activities.

To remain a member of the Coronat Program, students must fulfill five criteria:

  • maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 by the end two semesters at SU;
  • enroll as a full-time undergraduate each of the eight semesters they are enrolled;
  • complete at least 12 credits per semester during the academic year;
  • maintain Academic Integrity and student conduct expectations;
  • remain enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Study Abroad

With a semester of full funding (including tuition and travel expenses) for SU Abroad, Coronats are afforded the opportunity to study in places ranging from China to South America. Explore all of the study abroad programs at the SU Abroad's website.

Undergraduate Research

The Coronat program, much like the the College of Arts & Sciences under which it is housed, enriches the undergraduate academic experience by engaging students in knowledge creation through collaborative research experiences and experiential learning opportunities.
