The College of Arts and Sciences is the gateway to liberal education at Syracuse University. From our first interactions with prospective students and their parents to our continuing connections with alumni, we employ a completely integrated approach involving faculty development, facilities improvement, program development, and effective advocacy of our values and strengths.

Our core values are grounded in the knowledge that empowering students to be productive, flexible, responsible citizens requires, above all, the development of their minds as rigorous, questioning, and imaginative learners. The strengths we bring to this mission include a stellar faculty; a passionate commitment to diversity of all kinds that is functional, not merely nominal; and an expectation that the research and scholarly activities of our faculty and their various modes of civic engagement involve our undergraduate students deeply—and, therefore, are part of our environment of teaching and learning, rather than distinct from it.
