Winston Fisher Seminar 2013

The College of Arts and Sciences is excited to offer the eighth annual Winston Fisher Seminar during the week of Spring Break 2013. Through the foresight and generosity of one of our alumni--Winston Fisher '96 (Philosophy)--12 students will travel to Manhattan for Spring Break 2013 to experience the liberal arts in action. Your "classroom" will be located on Park Avenue where you will meet successful business people working in diverse sectors, most of whom are Arts and Sciences alumni. The Winston Fisher Seminar, "The Intersection of Business and the Liberal Arts," is an all-expenses paid experience which includes the cost of travel between Syracuse and New York City, travel within New York City, lodging, meals, supplies, and events. Students participate in three on-campus mandatory classes. Coursework includes required readings, case study analysis, written response papers, and, while in NYC, development and presentation of a business plan to a panel of judges. The student deemed to have most contributed to and benefited from the seminar (as evidenced in the business plan competition) will be awarded $500. For our juniors and seniors (with expected graduation dates of May 2013-May 2014) this will be a resume-enhancing experience that will increase your knowledge about, and confidence in, the job search process. You will experience firsthand the value of your degree in today's marketplace. Students will be eligible to earn one credit hour (pass/fail) if they complete all requirements for the course. Winston Fisher is Partner for Finance, Acquisitions and New Development at Fisher Brothers Management Company in New York City as well as Executive Vice Chairman of Fisher House Foundation.
