First Year Students' Guide to Selecting Courses

Welcome to The College of Arts and Sciences and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs!

The College encourages all incoming students to start early in taking charge of their academic experience at Syracuse University. Your first step in that direction is to provide information to your advisor about the courses you are interested in, so we can build your class schedule for Fall 2019.

We look forward to working with you this summer, and meeting you in the fall!

FTES Guide

Advising and Career Services has designed a step-by-step guide to assist you in using the College's online course selection system, the First Term Enrollment Selections (FTES.) We strongly recommend that you read this document, "FTES Guide 2019: Navigating The College of Arts and Sciences Online Course Selection System," before making course selections on FTES. FTES is available beginning May 20, 2019 under Student Services on MySlice (myslice.syr.edu.) Selecting your first-term courses will consist of the following steps:

  • Review "FTES Guide" and related materials
  • Complete each page of FTES and save all entries
  • Submit your finalized FTES selections by the June 14 deadline
