Web Cast of Ceremony Honoring Theologian Gabriel Vahanian
On October 24, 2007, the Department of Religion at Syracuse University sponsored a celebration in honor of professor emeritus Gabriel Vahanian and The Gabriel Vahanian Endowed Graduate Support Fund. Vahanian was feted by several colleagues, including Tazim R. Kassam, chair of SU’s religion department; Cathryn R. Newton, dean of SU’s College of Arts and Sciences; Michael S. Kogan ’63, G’77, chair of the philosophy and religion department at Montclair State University and benefactor of the Vahanian endowment fund; David L. Miller, SU’s Watson-Ledden Professor of Religion Emeritus; and James Wiggins, SU’s Eliphalet Remington Professor of Religion Emeritus. Vahanian, best known for his pioneering work in the “death of God” movement, delivered the keynote address, “East and West: From Mutual Religious Dissent to the Secular As Stewardship of a Common World.” The following is a Web cast of the event.
